Tannin alleviated colitis of mice challenged by DSS

Tannic acid is a kind of active polyphenols that are widely presented in phytogenic foods and medicinal plants. As an antioxidant and astringent, tannic acid has been used to treat bleeding, diarrhea, and other digestive diseases. Meanwhile, it is used as an additive in food and a feed additive. However, whether tannic acid can prevent or treat intestinal inflammation, and how it regulates immune function, the previous reports did not give overwhelming evidences. In present study, different doses of tannic acid were added to the drinking water of mice. Through the DSS modeling, tannic acid was used to check the anti-inflammation effect and relative mechanisms.
