Nasal microbiome of colonized, non-colonized, and infected neonates in NICU

Some neonates become colonized with S. aureus in the nares or develop S. aureus infection, while others do not become colonized with S. aureus. We performed two matched case-control studies (colonization cohort and bacteremia cohort). We conducted 16S rRNA sequencing of the nasal microbiome using longitudinal samples from S. aureus colonized, non-colonized, and S. aureus infected patients in two neonatal intensive care units.
