"The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposes to issue a scientific research permit for takes under the authority of the Endangered Species Act. The purpose of File No. 14176 is to collect biological and life history information on shortnose sturgeon in the Potomac River, Maryland and Virginia, including tracking seasonal movements, spawning periodicity, and genetics. The preferred alternative is not expected to have more than short-term effects on shortnose sturgeon and will not significantly impact the quality of the human environment"--Cover letter.
