Fonsecaea brasiliensis is a fungal species member of the family Herpotrichiellaceae, being a close relative of F. pedrosoi, major causative agent of chromoblastomycosis. This species is found mainly in tropical and sub-tropical regions associated with plant matter in mangroves. In addition, this species were found to cause Lethargic crab disease, however was these species were never been associated with human chromoblastomycosis and little is known about its pathogenic status. The genomic data will bring new opportunities to compare the genome of F. brasiliensis with F. pedrosoi in order to achieve possible genes related to human infection.
