M dwarfs and the exoplanet link\: a multiobservatory campaign

We aim to investigate prolonged rotation and activity in M dwarf (dM) stars dueto tidal interaction with closein planets, an effect previously observed forSunlike stars hosting Hot Jupiters. We are conducting a survey of dM + whitedwarf (WD) wide binary systems to study the ageactivity relationship for dMs,using WD as age calibrators. We aim followup cool WD + dM pairs identified inGaiaDR2, that will be also crucial for our main goal of testing the hypothesisof tidal interaction. We propose to use 288 ks of XMMNewton observing time toderive Xray luminosities as activity proxy for our dM targets. In addition, werequest 27 hours with Xshooter spectrograph at VLT to confirm their spectraltypes and to accurately determine their ages via their WD companions. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
