As part of the Integrated Field Research Challenge, in-field bioreactors were used to investigate whether incoming microbial species from a groundwater well source influenced the succession and stability of bacterial/archaeal microbial community structure. This work provides information for the processes influencing community assembly in groundwater planktonic and biofilm microbiota and has relevance for the importance of disturbance affects in aquatic microbial systems.
