VPRS 19288 Metropolitan Hospital Association and Victorian Hospital Association, Minutes and Correspondence

This series comprises correspondence and minutes for the Metropolitan Hospitals Association and the Victorian Hospitals Association. The two associations were concerned with the direction of hospital management and administration in Victoria and discussed matters such as the classification of teaching hospitals, funding, payments and appointments of medical staff, bursaries, collection purchasing of equipment, as well as industrial matters such superannuation and leave, and unrest by nurses over conditions of work and training. The Metropolitan Hospital Association was founded in 1920, two years after the Country Hospitals’ Association. The Victorian Hospitals Association was officially founded in 1938 but was built from metropolitan and country associations. When the Victorian Hospital Association was founded, an equal number of representatives from country and metropolitan hospitals was required.
