Amplicon Sequencing Based Profiling of Bacterial Diversity from Ballast Water in Port Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia

We profiled the bacterial diversity by amplicon sequencing of eight different ballast water collected from ships from various countries berthed at Port Tanjung Pelepas, Johor State of Malaysia.As the pathogenic bacteria carry virulence factors and antibiotic resistance genes, the amplicon sequencing is a necessary tool to characterize the dynamics of community ecology in the ballast water tank. Hence, the sequencing of ballast water microbiome would elucidate the bacterial diversity and identify both culturable and unculturable pathogenic bacteria that exist in the ballast water tank ships berthed at Port Tanjung Pelepas, Johor State of Malaysia.
