The function of the Division of Special Investigations was to conduct specialised in-depth investigations of government departments. Officers from the Division were made available to assist heads of departments within their administration. The functions of the Division were transferred to the Efficiency Audit Division in 1979. These files consist of investigations into departmental irregularities in expenditure and tendering for major purchases, investigations leading to charges being laid, papers relating to understaffing in rural mental hospitals, and papers relating to the Public Service Board investigation into the conduct and administration of the Department of Motor Transport.
