Strain Rr02_01 is a spontaneous mutant of strain S1 (ATCC 11170, DSMZ 467T). After undergoing mutation in a UV-accelerated Adaptive Laboratory Evolution experiment with high doses of CO (up to 2.0 bar) in mineral medium with acetate (10 mM), two clones were selected: 1.4-2B and 1.7-3A. Experiments were conducted in darkness. These clones were particularly interesting due to thir reduced lag phases under high levels of CO.
