The bacterial community of two saline water ponds in the Rudna mine were characterized by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and qPCR. Mine water was used in microcosm incubations together with sandstone or black schist from the mine and the development of acid mine drainage phenomena was followed. The indigenous microorganisms did not cause acidification in the microcosms, but the incubations with sandstone clearly increased the number of bacteria in the microcosm water.
