资源简介:
Mass education is often viewed as a cornerstone of democratization, yet Asia's political diversity challenges this assumption. While modernization theory links education to democratic progress, Asia's post-1945 history tells a more complex story. The rapid expansion of primary education in newly independent Asian states was driven less by democratic ideals and more by nation-building and economic development goals. Unlike Europe's relatively linear path, Asia's educational expansion has not consistently translated into democratic governance. This study explores how regional contexts shape the relationship between education and political development, emphasizing that education's democratizing effect is far from universal. By comparing European and Asian experiences, it highlights the critical role of socio-political dynamics in determining how education reforms influence democratization. Understanding these contextual differences offers a more nuanced perspective on the global interplay between education and democratic development.
