Combine sequencing of rRNA and rDNA, as well as Propidium Monoazide (PMA) cross-linking of rDNA to partition the active, dormant, and relic fractions in environmental samples. We apply this approach to characterizing the diversity and assemblage structure of the aforementioned fractions of microeukaryotes in intertidal sediments that were subjected to a wet-dry-rewet incubation cycle.
