INCA - Recreation - ES Demand- 2000-2006-2012

This dataset is an output of KIP INCA. It describes the demand (ES Demand) for outdoor recreation on a daily basis (requiring short distance movement to reach a recreational area).

Outdoor recreation is a cultural ecosystem service that includes all physical and intellectual interactions with biota, ecosystems, land-/seascapes.

Households are considered as user of the service; therefore, to quantify the demand for outdoor recreation we used the population data from the Global Human Settlement (GHS) model (European Commission-Joint Research Centre) . For comparative purposes, population density is estimated at LAU region as the ratio between the total population and the area of the region (persons per square kilometre).

The assessment is based on an analysis of ROS9 classes (More information is available in Vallecillo et al. 2018)

Dem_allyears_use_based.shp contains:

lau_km2: extent of LAU2 region in km2
pop_2000: inhabintants in year 2000
pop_2012: inhabintants in year 2000
sh_met00: share of population in 2000 living closer than 4 km from ROS9 areas
shunme00: share of population in 2000 living beyond 5 km from ROS9 areas
sh_met12: share of population in 2012 living closer than 4 km from ROS9 areas
shunme12: share of population in 2012 living beyond 5 km from ROS9 areas

For mapping demand in relative terms:
Pden_00: population density (inhabitants per km2) in 2000
Pden_12: population density (inhabitants per km2) in 2012
