Effect of knockdown of Pumilio proteins on microRNA expression profile in SH-SY5Y cells.

Evidence suggests a link between Parkinson's disease and microRNAs. Pumilio proteins are RNA-binding proteins that may influence microRNA expression by downregulating host genes or by impacting microRNA binding site accessibility on the same target. Our goals were to 1) generate global microRNA profiles in WT and PUM-deficient SH-SY5Y cells, 2) verify expression of microRNAs predicted to target the PD-associated genes SNCA, LRRK2, and SAT1, and 3) reveal differentially expressed microRNAs between the 2 treatments.
