Association of BMI, alcohol drinks/week and number of cigarettes/day with immune activation, microbial translocation and immune exhaustion.

We performed multivariate analysis to determine any significant group differences among the dependent variables. The first analysis model included groups (HIV+S, HIV+NS, HIVnegS and HIVnegNS) and covariates for a) number of alcoholic drinks/week and b) BMI. A second analysis was performed for smokers only that included groups (HIV+S and HIVnegS) with covariates for a) number of cigarettes/day, b) BMI and c) number of alcoholic drinks/week.
