The Hajj and Umrah Facial Recognition Dataset (HUFRD) was developed by the Center of Excellence for Pilgrim Research, College of Computer and Information Systems, Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This dataset contains facial images of pilgrims captured outside Al-Masjid al-Haram during the 2011 and 2012 Hajj and Umrah seasons, and is intended for testing facial recognition and detection algorithms, especially for missing person search and identification systems. The dataset encompasses pilgrims from over 25 countries, with each individual represented by a minimum of 6 to 15 images that showcase varying poses, facial expressions, and facial details, as well as diverse lighting conditions and backgrounds. The core application scenarios of the HUFRD dataset center on identifying missing and recovered individuals through CrowdSensing systems to support the management of large-scale crowds during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
