Association between bullous pemphigoid and chronic kidney disease: A bidirectional Mendelian randomization study

Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease. Increasing evidence showed BP is associated with systemic diseases, however, researches about BP and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are limited. Although a cohort study found individuals with CKD had increased risk of BP, 1 there has been no genetic evidence to demonstrate the casuality between BP and CKD. Mendelian Randomization (MR), based on genome-wide association studies (GWAS), is a method for determining causality between potentially modifiable risk factors and health outcomes. Here, we employed a bidirectional MR analysis to identify the association between BP and CKD.
