Measurements of ship-triggered methane emissions in Neva Bay, Russia in 2011 and 2012

Data files for the publication "Coastal methane emissions triggered by ship passages" (Nylund et al. 2025). The dataset contains data from sampling of ship-triggered methane emissions in the Neva Bay, Russia. The dataset include data from 12 sampling days in 2011 and 2012. Each sampling day have four different csv-files named: - yyyy_mm_dd_AIS.csv- yyyy_mm_dd_AISgpsPos.csv - yyyy_mm_dd_Picarro.csv - yyyy_mm_dd_Wind.csv where yyyy_mm_dd_ is the year, month and date of sampling. yyyy_mm_dd_AIS.csv Contains information about the observed/sampled ships.Parameters include: Time (Modified Julian Date format)Maritime Mobile Service Identity number (MMSI)Latitude (decimal degrees)Longitude (decimal degrees)Course over ground (degrees)Heading (degrees)Ship speed (knots) In the cases when more than one ship was observed for the same timestamp, the parameters (except time)are repeated on the same line once for each ship. yyyy_mm_dd_AISgpsPos.csv Contains information about the ship used for sampling (i.e. the sampling "platform").Parameters include: Time (Modified Julian Date format)Maritime Mobile Service Identity number (MMSI)Latitude (decimal degrees)Longitude (decimal degrees)Speed sampling vessel (m/s)Course over ground (degrees) For the 2012 folders the file also contains the parametersWind speed (m/s)Wind direction (degrees)yyyy_mm_dd_Picarro.csv Contains information about the observed methane and carbon dioxide plumes.Parameters include:Average plume time (Modified Julian Date format) (the time in the middle between start and stop)Start plume time (Modified Julian Date format)Stop plume time (Modified Julian Date format)Date Time (UTC) CO2 (ppm raw) CO2 (ppm H2O corrected) CH4 (ppm raw) CH4 (ppm H2O corrected) H2O [%]yyyy_mm_dd_Wind.csv Contains information about the observed methane and carbon dioxide plumes.Parameters include:Time (Modified Julian Date format)Incoming wind direction (degrees)Wind speed (knots)
