THE INTERACTION BETWEEN SNR SHELLS AND THE INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM

We propose to observe two regions in the Vela supernova remnant shell, which,together with an EPIC GT observation we have already analyzed, will allow us tosample at high spatial resolution (less then 0.1 pc) the downstream plasma fromthe main shock rim directly interacting with the undisturbed ISM to an innerregion, located virgul7 pc toward the SNR center. The selected regions containsprototypical representations of shockcloud interactions, and they are thereforeideal candidates for the assessment of the nature of the Xray emission in this(and other) middleaged supernova remnant shells. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
