Co-occurring arbuscular mycorrhizal and ectomycorrhizal coniferous trees share endophytic fungi

In this study, we statistically examined host preference of all root-associated fungi in a mixed forest of arbuscular mycorrhizal and ectomycorrhizal coniferous trees in Japan. We sampled roots of Chamaecyparis obtusa (arbuscular mycorrhizal) and Pinus densiflora (ectomycorrhizal) and then revealed community compositions of the fungi associated with the two plant species based on Illumina sequencing.
