Barcoding the arthropod genera of NMNH

For over a decade, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History (NMNH; www.naturalhistory.si.edu/rc/) has partnered with the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (CBG; www.biodiversitygenomics.net/) at the University of Guelph, Canada to set the global standard for DNA barcode-based museum processing and digitization efforts. To date, over 120,000 specimens have been DNA barcoded for Genbank and the Barcode of Life Datasystems (BOLD; www.boldsystems.org/) through this partnership. More recently, CBG has worked in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution DNA Barcode Network (SIBN) and Global Genome Initiative (GGI; www.ggi.si.edu/) to DNA barcode the extensive collection of arthropod genera at NMNH. In addition, this partnership expands the valuable derivatives archived from this project to include high-quality DNA-extracts and tissue samples, and make all relevant cryo-banking data accessible through the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN; www.ggbn.org/). This BioProject houses all GenBank records generated through this collaborative project with SIBN and GGI.
