Postoperative delirium (POD) is the most common complication occurring in 10-50% of patients undergoing surgery and general anesthesia, especially in the elderly. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying POD have not been fully elucidated. We focused on the basal forebrain (BFB), which is involved in cognitive function in the mammalian brain. The aim of the present study was to reproduce hypoactive POD behavior in aged mice and to measure all gene expression in the BFB of aged mice to capture the relationship with hypoactive POD behavior.
