Title: Magnetorheological Damper Test Data for Characterization and Modeling (NEES-2012-1158)

Year Of Curation: 2014

Description: Semi-active control devices have received significant attention in recent years because they offer the adaptability of active control devices without requiring the associated large power sources. Magnetorheological (MR) dampers are semi-active control devices that use MR fluids to produce controllable dampers. They potentially offer highly reliable operation and can be viewed as fail-safe in that they become passive dampers should the control hardware malfunction. To develop control algorithms that take maximum advantage of the unique features of the MR damper, models must be developed that can adequately characterize the dampera??s intrinsic nonlinear behavior. To aid in the development of new models that can effectively portray the behavior of a typical magnetorheologicaldamper, a experimental results for a prototype MR damper (Lord Corporation) obtained over a wide range of operating conditions.

Award: http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=9301584

PIs & CoPIs: Shirley Dyke, Billie Spencer

Dates: January 01, 1994 - August 01, 1996

Organizations: Purdue University at West Lafayette, IN, United States

Facilities: University of Notre Dame, IN, United States

Sponsor: NSF - CMMI - 9301584

Keywords: Magneto-Rehological Fluid Damper,structural control,earthquake mitigation

Publications: --
<nb:citations></nb:citations>
