VPRS 14477 Register of Valuation of Improvements

This series lists improvements made to properties in Districts 1, 2 and 3. District 1 was Western (including Horsham and Geelong), Northern (including Kerang, Echuca and Benalla) and District 3 was the Melbourne region.Details given are the district code number, the file number, the name of the recipient, the parish and allotment number, the name of the estate and details of the buildings allotted with the cost of erection until after c1930 when details became sparser. Remarks could include notes of whether the improvement was a renovation or a remodelling of the building and details of its size. Details of contracts relating to these improvements may be found in VPRS 14448 Contract Books.Section 9 of the Closer Settlement Act 1906 (Section 96 Closer Settlement Act 1915) had given the Board the power to erect dwelling houses and outbuildings and to make improvements on allotments. The value was fixed by the legislation, with the principal and interest (of five per cent per annum) to be repaid over twenty years. At the same time, the Board was able to make advances for tools and equipment or to make these available to lessees through rent or hire purchase (see VPRS 11920 and VPRS 11921). These improvements were available to lessees under both the Closer Settlement Acts and the Dischaged Soldiers Settlement Acts.Unit 1 of VPRS 14477 / P1 was previously registered as Unit 13 of VPRS 753 / P Records of the Closer Settlement Agencies.
