Land plants in symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi must have a mechanism to regulate the phosphate acquisition pathway through mycorrhizal symbiosis as well as directly roots. Since there is extreme species and genetic diversity in arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, plants that can establish absolute symbiosis may have the species-specific regulation of the phosphate acquisition mechanism via mycorrhizal symbiosis, i.e., the mycorrhizal uptake pathway of phosphate. This study aims to get molecular biological insights regarding the actual control mechanism of the phosphate acquisition pathway through mycorrhizal symbiosis in a species-specific manner based on the experiments using model plants, Brachypodium distachyon infected with different arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi species.
