Data on carbon dynamics (Net ecosystem exchange, Ecosystem respiration and gross primary productivity) from a field experiment conducted in páramo grasslands of northern Ecuador

This dataset contains information on carbon dynamics (Net ecosystem exchange, Ecosystem respiration and gross primary productivity) from a field experiment conducted in páramo grasslands of northern Ecuador between 2022 and 2023. The experiment consisted in a set of repeated CO2 flux measurements conducted in 27 experimental plots (6.25 m2) distributed in three blocks, with three replicates of control, potato, and burning treatments. Experimental plots located at the Chakana Conservation Reserve (0°26'57.88"S; 78°18'22.09"W), in a tussock grassland ecosystem in the Northern Ecuadorian páramo, between 3715 and 3740 m of elevation. CO2 dynamic was characterized in each plot using a static chamber method implemented through a Picarro GasScouter™ G4301, a fixed PVC ring base (40 cm in diameter) enclosing the main type of plant cover in each treatment, and a clear polycarbonate chamber, equipped with a fan. Each measurement was paired with an additional measurement performed with a light-proof cloth hood placed on top of the chamber to block sunlight and allow estimation of ecosystem respiration.
