This research uncovers that animals maintain reproductive potential during hibernation through two key mechanisms: the downregulation of neurotransmitters (e.g., GABA receptors) to induce metabolic slowing in near-mature follicles for energy conservation, and m6A methylation to inhibit premature follicular activation. Concurrently, the depth of hibernation may influence long-term ovarian reserve by modulating processes such as DNA repair.
