Electroacupuncture ameliorates metabolic disorders in obese ZDF rats by regulating liver energy metabolism and gut microbiota

According to the theory of "resolving phlegm and removing dampness" in traditional Chinese medicine, we selected Daimai (GB36), Zhongwan (CV12), Zusanli (ST36), and Fenglong (ST40) to form Tiao-Dai-Hua-Tan Formula (TDHT). In this study, we performed a multi-organ and multi-omics study comprising metabolomics and microbiome approaches by the treatment of obese ZDF rats with electroacupuncture of TDHT. We conduct joint analyzes of the microbiome, metabolome, and host phenotypes and present a roadmap for the integration of models of the liver with the gut microbiota to identify potential mechanistic links.
