The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the antimethanogenic compound 3-nitrooxypropanol on emissions, animal performance, milk composition and rumen fermentation in early lactating dairy cows fed a forage-rich diet. The 13C isotopic signature of milk as a potential proxy for methane emission status was also evaluated.
