Staphylococcus argenteus is a newly described species within the Staphylococcus aureus complex. S. argenteus is difficult to differentiate fro S. aureus by phenotypic procedures such as pyr, tube coagulase, and MALDI-TOF. Definitive identification is obtained by molecular tests and therefore S. argenteus often goes undetected in the clinical laboratory. This project aims to provide sequence data from New Zealand isolates.
