Genomic Insights into Salmonella Virulence in Hospitalized Cattle

Salmonella isolates (n=314) recovered from hospitalized cattle at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (CSU VTH) between 2002 and 2012 were received at the VERO research laboratory for DNA extraction and Long-read WGS. Additionally, short-read WGS was performed and the sequences were incorporated into a short-read polished, long-read first genome assembly approach. Virulence factors were identified in each genome and Fishers exact tests were used to identify associations between virulence factors and host characteristics.
