Images and GIS from an Archaeological Evaluation at Blue Barn Farm, Trimley St. Martin, Suffolk, June 2022

This archive contains images and GIS from an archaeological evaluation at of land at near Blue Barn Farm, Trimley St. Martin, Suffolk. The work was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in June 2022. A total of twenty-six trenches were excavated, with archaeological deposits identified in twenty-two. Cropmarks have previously been recorded in the eastern area of site and within the surrounding fields, several ditches identified within Trenches 4, 5,6, 12 and 19 appear to relate to these, one ditch in Trench 12 has been provisionally dated as Roman, whilst the other remains undated. The evaluation revealed a multi-period site, with features dated to the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, the Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age, Roman and medieval to post-medieval. The archaeology predominately comprised ditches and pits, with a potential roundhouse identified in Trench 9. The roundhouse and waste from pits in Trenches 15 and 17, suggest evidence for settlement activity within the site bounds. Although many of the features were dated, only small quantities of finds were recovered, with the majority of the features excavated devoid of datable material.
