cardiac ischemic tissues of pigs

Male Tibetan mini pigs were selectively chosen as the myocardial infaction model for this study due to their physiological similarities to human cardiac anatomy and function. MI was induced by ligating the first diagonal branch of the anterior descending branch (D1). Specimens (0.5 cm maximum) were procured from distinct regions: the ischemic site, border, remote areas of infarcted tissue, and the healthy left ventricular wall.
