Impact of climate change on air quality.

In cooperation with the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), the Federal Environment Agency has analysed and summarized the current state of research on the influence of climate change on air quality. Changes due to climate change are to be expected for the air pollutants ozone and particulate matter. Ozone is expected to increase in concentration in Europe. In combination with heat waves, negative health effects will intensify. In the case of particulate matter, the results are not quite as clear, as particulate matter pollution depends on many influencing factors, which also differ seasonally. Concerning the application of model calculations for Austria, the experts conclude that these should be carried out in international cooperations.
