We assess possible changes in cyanobacterial community dynamics via sedimentary DNA (sedDNA) from lake sediments, with the aim of creating a distinction between their natural and human drivers. Using amplicon sequencing approach, we sequenced cyanobacterial-derived DNA from a sediment core of lake Tiefer See spanning the last three and a half centuries. Our findings highlight the importance of high-resolution amplicon sequencing in investigating the dynamics of past cyanobacterial communities and paves the way for Holocene cyanobacteria investigation.
