This study provides detailed information on the microbial dynamics and degradation performances within lab-scale anaerobic digesters in presence of different sources of ammonia. In some digesters, zeolite has been added to mitigate the inhibition. In total 10 conditions were tested in triplicate. In a first series of 15 bioreactors, ammonia was added in the bioreactors to reach a TAN concentration of 8 g/L in the form of NH3 solution or NH4Cl salt or (NH4)2CO3 salt or (NH4)2PO4 salt. A control condition without ammonia was also set-up. A second series of 15 bioreactors was set-up exactly as the first one, except that zeolite was also added at a concentration of 15 g/L. Data provided includes the operational conditions of the digesters and degradation performance measurements during all the degradation, as well as microbial community analysis, by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, at different time points for the different conditions (50 samples). Sequencing data were generated by using IonTorrent PGM sequencer.
