Castromediano-De Giorgi: un sodalizio per la tutela archeologica e della storia patria di Terra d'Otranto

In this essay the intention is to retrace the intellectual relationship and friendship between the patriot, parlamentarian and scholar, the Duke Sigismondo Castromediano, and the scientist and historian from Lizzanello, Cosimo De Giorgi. The latter, younger than his mentor, embraced the Duke's cultural aims: a vocation that preserved and promoted the historical, artistic and archeological heritage of Terra d'Otranto. An area where there was an almost total indifference, especially from the local institutions, despite the work of the "Commision Curator of National Monuments and History", of which both were active and conscious members as well as its driving forces.
