资源简介:
Background: Parkinson disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s disease. Purpose: To establish effectiveness of IRQoL-PD in comparison with control group treatment protocol to enhance the quality of life in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Methods: A single centered, non equivalent pre-test post-test control group design was done with 32 participants suffering from PD with age group between 35-80 yrs who were randomly assigned into two groups. Intervention with IRQoL-PD protocol was given in experimental group for 5 weeks. In control group, patients were on medications prescribed by their respective neurologists along with home exercise. Outcome measure: UPDRS and Hoehn and Yahr scale as outcome measures. Result: It showed that there was significant improvement in primary outcome measure i.e. UPDRS with p - value = 0.008 but secondary outcome measure i.e Hoehn and Yahr Scale didn’t show any significant difference (p-value = 0.312) between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: Institution based Rehabilitation protocol to improve Quality of life in patients with Parkinson’s Disease (IRQoL-PD) can be used effectively so that the patients can be benefitted globally and thus delaying the progression of disease in comparison to the conventional treatment of medications and home exercise program which proves to be insignificant when compared with the above rehabilitation protocol.
