资源简介:
The International Mt Erebus Seismic Survey (IMESS) was conducted on Mt Erebus to monitor and assess the seismic activity of the volcano year round. Seismic, infrasonic and magnetic induction data were telemetered and recorded continuously at Scott Base. A figure eight cable was installed around the main crater on the Mt Erebus summit and the area called 'Camp Flow' to record electromagnetic impulses generated by the lava column which would be transmitted together with the data from a permanent seismometer and microphone at the Main Crater back to Scott Base where is would be recorded. Near surface seismic velocities and earthquake frequencies were determined using infrasonic and magnetic sensors, electromagnetic surveys, telemetry seismographs and lava lake surveillance and probes to determine earthquake size vs frequency of occurrence. The summit was occupied to observe crater activity and monitor and repair equipment. The principle objective was the location of earthquake foci but statistics of occurrence, tidal effects, spectra, energy and time and amplitude relationships between different types of data for both earthquakes and eruptions was also studied. The study was terminated in 1986.
