The active human gut microbiota differs from the total microbiota

Here we describe gut microbiome from four healthy volunteers in terms of 16S rDNA gene pyrosequencing. We studied the active microbiota fraction from human faeces obtained by fluorescent activated cell sorting based on bacterial RNA concentration. Thus, we compared the microbial diversity encountered in raw faecal samples, with the active fraction from the same samples.
