Measurement of ambient vibration in empty buildings

We measure and analyse the ambient vibration induced in residential buildings in urban settings. 

 - The buildings chosen had to be newly constructed and completely finished and ready for delivery to their new owners,but none of the flats could already be inhabited and none of the building’s enclosures could have workers carrying out workor finishing tasks of any kind. - Noise from continuous or semi-continuous processes due to common building installations such as water pumps or liftshad to be avoided by temporarily disconnecting them for the duration of the tests.- The structures of the chosen buildings had to be similar, so that we reduce as much as possible the variability due to the different materials and structural construction systems.- Fulfilling these conditions three buildings with different noise exposure levels were selected. Two of the residentialbuildings are located in the city of Madrid (Spain), and are referred to by their neighborhoods, Santo Ángel and Montecarmelo, and the third in the city of Pozuelo de Alarcón (Spain), referred to as Prado-pozuelo. In all cases, the selected buildings are free from the influence of rail traffic, either subway or surface.
