Due to changing weather and climate conditions and increased tourism and shipping activity, vessel traffic in Nunavut waterways has been increasing and likely will continue to increase in the coming years. The ability for local, real-time data monitoring of vessel traffic is critical for assessing cumulative impacts, planning on-ice travel during the freeze-up and break-up periods, and planning fishing and transportation activities during the open water season.
