Datasets on Medieval Studies Dissertations and Habilitations (Germany 2000–2024; France 2000–2023)

This dataset contains two CSV files documenting recent trends in medieval studies research: Bock_DtMittelalterforschung2000_2024.csvA dataset of PhD dissertations and habilitations in German medieval studies (2000–2024). It includes metadata such as title, author, supervisor(s), university, type of thesis, defense date, and keywords. The dataset provides a comprehensive overview of academic production in German-speaking medieval history over the last two decades. theses_medievales2000_2023.csvA dataset of PhD dissertations in French medieval history (2000–2023). It records metadata including title, author, university, defense date, language, and subject descriptors. The dataset offers insight into disciplinary orientations and thematic clusters within French medieval studies. Together, these datasets aim to support comparative research on historiographical developments, academic infrastructures, and thematic shifts in European medieval studies. The data were first presented at the conference “Les tendances récentes de la recherche médiévale allemande (2020–2024)” held at the Deutsches Historisches Institut Paris on 3 April 2025.
