Male sterile plants provide crucial breeding tools to harness heterosis in hybrid crops and also provide important materials to study stamen and pollen development. 83121A is a spontaneous male sterile mutant identified from cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) line 83121. It is genetically controlled by a single recessive gene. The male sterile mutant is normal in terms of vegetative and floral development but failed to produce any viable pollen. So far few studies have been reported on male sterility in 83121A and little is known about its molecular mechanism. In this study, the high-throught RNA-seq was utilized to analyze the bud transcriptomes of recessive male sterile line 83121A and the corresponding near-isogenic male fertile line83121B. This study can provide supporting data and reference information for future studies on recessive male sterility in 83121A.
