The objective of this study is to create a de novo reference whole genome for this American gull from HiFi Long Reads. We will pair this genome with RNAseq data to explore underlying molecular mechanisms driving phenological patterns in offspring development. This study is part of a larger project to explore how the Pan-American hooded gulls of the genus 'Leucophaeus' evolved a surprising variety of life-history traits that shape their phenology today.
