Risk and Safety in Transport, 2010

The project consists of three subprojects (reduced from 4 in the original application) and each subproject discusses and compares a wide range of transport modes. The project builds on an ongoing project run by TOI about perceived insecurity in RISIT. The first part is a method development related to emotional factors in risk perception (objective 1), while in Part 2 continued and expanded analysis of variation in risk perception between groups (objectives 2). Part three examines the risk compensation and perceived insecurity linked to public acceptance of measures by various modes of transport (objectives 3 and 4). All subprojects are seen in light of a) discrepancy between objective and perceived risk and b) the relationship between cognitive and emotional components of risk perception. The purpose of the project is to generate knowledge about the actual risk and risk perception that may contribute to a risk communication perspective and in conjunction with the implementation of effective security measures. Finally, the goal is to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between cognition and emotion in risk perception . The project has thus a basic researcg part (relationship between emotion and cognition in risk perception), as well as a greater applied part. Different methods will be used, but mainly literary studies, and the development and adaptation of an existing questionnaire will be used in the different sections.
