Abstract:In the present study, an attempt was made to isolate and characterize certain important plant growth<br>promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) from ten locations of Perambalur district of Tamilnadu. The results showed that<br>4<br>all the maize soils harbouredPGPR such as Azospirillum, Bacillus and Pseudomonas to the tune of 10 CFU/g of<br>rhizosphere soil sample. Pure culture of the above PGPR were isolated and characterized for tentative<br>identification at their species level. General and biochemical characterization studies revealed that five each<br>isolate of A. brasilenseand A. lipoferum, six isolates of P. fluorescens and four isolates of P. putida and five each of<br>B. megaterium and B. polymyxa were found among the ten rhizosphere soils.
