This series consists of correspondence and administration files relating to the management of reserves by the Goulburn Crown Land Agent's Office and Goulburn Land Board Office.The Goulburn Crown Land Agent’s Office was established on 1 January 1853 under the Crown Lands Alienation Act 1861 (25 Vic. No.1) and Crown Lands Occupation Act 1861 (25 Vic. No.2). It was replaced by the Goulburn Land Board Office on 1 January 1885 when the Crown Lands Act 1884 (48 Vic. No.18) repealed the 1861 Acts. (1)Crown reserves are areas of land set aside on behalf of the community for a wide range of public purposes including environmental and heritage protection, recreation and sport, open space, community halls, special events and government services. (2)Crown reserves are mainly managed by Crown land reserve trusts and a small proportion by community volunteers. (3)Local Land Boards were established as community based tribunals for the purpose of resolving disputes in relation to land settlement in New South Wales. Over the years, the role of the boards was broadened under jurisdictions mandated by various Acts, including the Western Lands Act 1901 (Act No. 70, 1901) and the Crown Lands Act 1989 (Act No. 6, 1989).These records comprise Ministerial correspondence, file notes, reports dealing with the administration of Crown reserves including creation, appointment, addition, trusts, annual reports and financial statements, leases, licences, insurance, grants, assessments, dedications and revocations.The files are arranged in numerical order and each folder displays a district number and reserve number.Endnotes1.
