Pinion-reliquary of Saint Valentine

Pinion-reliquary of Saint Valentine (inv. 1038), Four pinions-reliquaries, Atelier Mosan, circa 1180-1200, oak core, embossed copper, engraved and gilded, champlevé enamel and mixed enamel, brown varnish. Provenance, Saint-Servais de Maastircht church. Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Made of 220 pictures with CapturingReality. These four reliquary gables were once exhibited in the choir of the Church of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, on either side of the reliquary of Saint Servatius. The wooden formwork housing the relics, visible on the back of these reliquaries, does not appear to date back to the 14th century. It is therefore not known whether these gables were designed from the start as independent reliquaries or whether, on the contrary, they were originally part of two complete reliquaries of which they would be the only remains.
